Serving in Children’s Ministries is an opportunity to help kids build their lives on the firm foundation of God’s word. There are two main ministries for children at Bethel: Sunday Morning Activities and AWANA.  Both are described below.

Before serving in Sunday Morning Activities, we ask that you regularly attend services at Bethel for at least three months to become familiar with our church family. Because the safety of our children is paramount, all who serve our children must fill out a comprehensive application, come to an interview and agree to a background check.

Sunday Morning Activities

Nursery

We watch children younger than three in the nursery during the Sunday School Hour and the Worship Service. This ministry is open to those high-school-aged and above, but we prefer that high school students don’t serve during the Sunday School Hour. At least one adult is on staff at all times. Both men and women can serve in the Nursery, but men aren’t allowed to change diapers (unless it is for their own child).

Ages 3-4 (during the Sunday School Hour)

Those who serve our three and four year olds lead or assist with a Bible lesson, help the children with crafts and supervise free play. This ministry is open to both men and women college-aged and older.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade (during the Sunday School Hour)

This group has a little better understanding of the classroom setting and provides a little more structure. Serving our kindergarteners and first graders includes leading or helping with a Bible lesson, assisting kids with any special activities, and supervising the kids. This ministry is open to those college-aged and above.

Praisetown (during the Sunday School Hour)

Praisetown focuses on grades 2-6, where the teaching is more intensive. Those college-aged and above can serve as the primary teacher, leading the lesson for a particular morning. Others serve as small group leaders, assisting with the morning’s lesson, helping kids carry out particular activities or complete crafts, and supervising the kids.

Churchtime (during the Worship Service)

This group is for three-year olds up to first graders. Serving this group includes leading or assisting with a lesson, helping with crafts, snacks, and supervision. Those junior-high-aged and up can serve in this ministry. At least one adult must be present.

Kids’ Time (during the Worship Service)

This ministry takes place on alternating Sundays and focuses on the older elementary children. Those college-aged and above participate by leading the lesson or by helping with lesson instruction, group activities and supervising behavior.

AWANA

Bethel’s AWANA program has active participants from other churches. We don’t require helpers to be members of Bethel unless they want to be an AWANA director.

AWANA has three levels of service: directors, leaders and listeners. Directors oversee one of the four AWANA groups. Leaders assist the directors in carrying out a particular evening’s program, and might oversee a small group of kids. Listeners listen to AWANA kids recite their memory verses.

To find out more, read the AWANA page.
